Endometrial hyperplasia is a medical condition that, if unaddressed, will in 30% of cases develop into cancer of the uterus.
Endometrial hyperplasia is an above normal thickening of the lining of the uterus. This overgrowth of cells predisposes the woman to abnormal tissue changes in the uterus which may become cancerous.
The reason for the hyperplasia is generally due to a dominance of the hormone estrogen and a deficiency of the hormone progesterone. Endometrial hyperplasia often is diagnosed after the investigation of changes to menstrual patterns including heavy periods, irregular bleeding, pelvic pain and vaginal discharge.
